On a sun-drenched afternoon an attendance of 22,000 saw us go down by 4- 1 against a side which played plenty of good soccer.   Borussia went in front in the 32nd minute when Sigi Held headed in a centre by Gerd Cyliax, and Reinbard Libuda scorccd twice in the three minutes just before half-time to make it 3—0. We substituted Bill Kitchener, Bobby Howe and Trevor Hartley for Billy Bonds, Bobby Moore (who had a cut leg) and Geoff Hurst (blistered heel), and earlier (seven minutes, after the start) Peter Bennett had taken the place of Peter Brabrook who had a leg injury. However, Martin Peters reduced our arrears, but Lothar Emmerich set the seal on: his side's victory towards the end.

Against the run of the play Klostermann put Aachen ahead in. the 41 si minute. However, the 15,000 attendance then saw Hammers strike their best forin -in the next quarter-of-an-hour of play; Martin Peters made the scores even before half-time, and in the early stages of the second half we went 4 -1 ahead.
Peters crossed for Peter Bennett to head home our second, Geoff Hurst side-footed Harry Redknapp's centre to make it three, and thep another Redknapp centre was headed "in by John Sissons.
Shots which hit the pool or were blocked on the line might easily have made it a runaway win for the in-form Hammers, but when Hermanduiif; reduced the Germans' arrears in the 67th minute the scoreline looked better for the newly-promoted AHernama than was reflected by the play.
Troche, of the Uraguayan World Cup side, was is the home club's line-up.

The population of the village of Frechen helped Jo make up a 3,000 or so attendance, which was good considering that this game was arranged at short notice. The homssters included several " star " guests, but early on were no match for our XI who scored twice in the first ten minutes : an over-head kick by Martin Peters (following a combined Bobby Moore-Trevor Hartley move) and Billy Kitchener's 30-yard drive were the successful shots. The enthusiastic Germans then struck back through Braun (25 mins.) and Simon (43 mins.) to be level at half-time.
After the interval Peters got his second from a pass by Peter Bennett, but a late long drive by Schwartz evened the final count at 3 3 to the delight of their fans.

Our concluding same {the fourth in eight days) brought a grand finale in an 8—2 win. The opposition was strictly semi-pro, bu they played their paart well to net goals after being 5—0 and 8—I down. The "gate" of 7,500 was about four times the normal, and altogether they had an enjoyable afternoon.
Martin Peters (4 mins.), Geoff Hurst (28 mins.), Bobby Moore (38 mins.), Peter Bennett (43 mins.), and Hurst again (47 mins.) netted before Krott reduced the margin ; however Ron Boyce, John Sissons and Bennett again made it 8—I with five minutes left for play- then Brechen scored the Germans' second.

12th August 1967
Grotier, Shaw, Knowles, Vaughan, Morgan, Glumart, Stanley, Holland, Mullin, Carr, Lay
A goal by Scots amateur Jim Mullin was our solitary reply to the home side's two. This match took place prior to the senior teams' fixture, and the bigger Boro" youngsters earned their 2-1 margin.
First XI - 3:15pm
London Road
4-2 (Hurst, Peters, Sissons 2)
12th August 1967
Ferguson, Bonds, Charles J., Bovington, Cushley, Moore, Redknapp, Peters, Hurst, Boyce, Sissons
When John Sissons slid the ball under the advancing Tony Millington for our third goal (two minutes after the start of the second half) we appeared to have the game well won. But the Posh hit back to score through Fairbrother (54 mins.) and Watson (60 mins) and then gave our defence a real hammering; for the next quarter-of-an-hour or so. However, another from Sissons with twelve minutes to go settled the issue and we ended up 4-2 ahead. Our earlier goals were by Geoff Hurst with a well-timed header (28 mins.) and Martin Peters (a tremendous shot in the 35th minute).

Although the Southern Leaguers scored after six minutes we retaliated very quickly to be well up at the interval. Brian Dear and Trevor Hartley
scoring twice each. Dear completed his hat-trick in the second half, and the Hammers were 5-1 ahead at the final whistle. The team played very confidently, and we were pleased to see that recently-injured Brian Dear came through the test very satisfactorily

We have already included a number of newcomers in our youth teams so far this season, but with a large professional staff available several of oar apprentices have been in the South East Counties League line-ups.
A 2—2 draw v Oxford United Colts at Manor Ground brought a point to our under-18's in Division I of the competition on the first day, although we had plenty of first-half chances to make the game safe before the interval

With only one Combination fixture scheduled for the first four Saturdays of the season our Reserves have had little opportunity to get into the news, and until they have completed their four games in September we shall not really have any facts upon which to base their prospects.
In the game against Spurs Reserves at Upton Park neither side showed a great deal of initiative, and the 1—1 draw was a reasonable reflection of the play. We made a substitution in the first half, Bill Kitchener replacing Alan Sealey who injured his foot.

A scarcity of fixtures (only two in the first five weeks of the season) has not made it too difficult for our Reserves to maintain an undefeated record to date in the Football Combmation, but their three points from the couple of home games does not place them very high in the current table. However, with a more regular schedule to follow in the next few weeks they will have the opportunity to improve upon it.
The visit of Peterborough United Reserves found us in arrears at the interval, but a second-half rally showed up the more experienced Hammers in a better light and we ended comfortably ahead at 4 - 2
